The ecotourism sector in Brazil received a fresh mapping of the national territory this February. The PlanetaEXO platform has selected 15 destinations focusing on environmental conservation and the sustainable development of local communities for tourism through 2026. This comprehensive survey covers preserved areas across diverse biomes, including vast stretches of the Amazon Rainforest, the Cerrado (Brazilian savanna), and the Caatinga.

Archaeological Treasures and Pristine Waters

In the Northeast region, the Serra da Capivara National Park in Piauí boasts approximately 30,000 pieces of ancient rock art spread across 130,000 hectares. In Pernambuco, the Catimbau National Park shelters over 6,000 archaeological records set against the region’s striking arid landscape. Researchers and visitors can explore these remarkable heritage sites through guided hikes led by specialized local teams.

The report also highlights the exceptional visitor infrastructure along the country’s inland river circuits. In Mato Grosso, the municipality of Nobres concentrates its tourist hubs in the charming district of Vila Bom Jardim, located 65 kilometers from the urban center. Across different Brazilian states, several outstanding private initiatives are seamlessly integrating tourism with environmental preservation:

  • Pousada Trijunção: Operating on the border of Goiás, Minas Gerais, and Bahia, this eco-lodge champions water reuse and maintains a vital partnership with the Onçafari project, dedicated to jaguar conservation.
  • Ibiti Project: Active in the Lima Duarte district of Minas Gerais, this organization works tirelessly to protect native flora while generating sustainable economic opportunities in the highlands.
  • Zagaia Eco Resort: Offers premium eco-friendly accommodations in Bonito, a municipality in Mato Grosso do Sul renowned worldwide for its crystal-clear waters, located 300 kilometers from Campo Grande.

In the marine realm, the Abrolhos Marine National Park in Bahia manages five islands and closely monitors the coastal region’s magnificent coral reefs. The archipelago serves as a prime observation base during the spectacular humpback whale breeding season. Further north, the idyllic Fernando de Noronha archipelago restricts diving activities in highly sensitive areas to ensure the pristine habitat of spinner dolphins and green sea turtles remains undisturbed.
